'Tummy Tucks', also known as Abdominoplasty, is designed
to firm and smooth your stomach / abdomen area giving
you a slimmer, trimmer profile.
A ‘baggy' stomach is often the result of substantial
weight loss due to dieting or following pregnancy.
The problem is that although you lose pounds of weight
you can end up with a surplus of loose skin and fat
around your tummy area.
Many women also suffer weakened tummy muscles after
pregnancy which makes the problem worse. Abdominoplasty
can help by tightening up those muscles, helping you
to regain that flatter, tighter tummy area.
The procedure can even eliminate some stretch marks,
especially those located below the 'tummy button.
Quite simply, the ‘tummy tuck' removes this excess
skin and fat. The aim is to tighten the muscles of
the abdominal wall, resulting in a flatter abdominal
profile.
Generally you will be given a general anaesthetic
so that you'll be asleep throughout the procedure,
and expect you should expect to spend at least two
nights in hospital.
The procedure is fairly straight forward in that an
horizontal incision is made just within or above the
pubic area. The length of this incision depends largely
on the amount of skin to be removed. The contour will
vary a little according to the structure of your abdomen
and the style of beachwear or underclothes you prefer.
If you have loose skin above the 'tummy button', your
cosmetic surgeon may make a second incision around
the 'tummy button' to remove this excess skin. Any
skin on the lower abdomen that contains stretch marks
may also be able to be removed. Any remaining stretch
marks may be able to be flattened and improved.
